Yeah - a well known Republican strategy that has worked well for the past two elections.

John's point was that there are people - like you - who can't stop the battle cries for two seconds to have a civil conversation. There are times on this board where someone - from one side or another - says "let's all take a step back, get our bearings, and evaluate the situation."

Some people are capable of doing this little "reboot", while others only have one mode: ATTACK.

Maybe I am too partisan a dem to even see one area where McCain is clearly superior to Obama, but certainly Washington experience might be one area.

But, speaking as a democrats, McCain is clearly superior to GWB, and I do not think McCain will buy into Neocon mythology. McCain is pragmatic enough to demand results and will pull the plug on strategies that don't work. And with McCain, I think the GOP has run a basically honest man for a change, and McCain will put the country ahead of his own short terms gains. I can say quite honestly that I have a visceral hate of much of GWB&co., but I cannot find any good reasons to hate John McCain.

And I can also feel a lot of sympathy for McCain, he has been used and abused by the GOP, and has had to make a lot of unfortunate deals with the devil to get his parties nomination. Left to his own devices, McCain would be a far better man. I have my own doubts about Obama also, but its the only honest answer I can give to the OP. Think for yourself and ignore the too partisan on either side, after all, you are not going to get perfection, the human race is incapable of that, you are voting for the lesser of two evils.

It's refreshing to see an Obama supporter on this board look at things objectively.

Good post

I agree too. I want Obama to win, but if McCain takes it, I will not be too upset. I would expect that pres. McCain would go back to being himself after winning and stop catering to the "base". MCCain is infinitely better than Bush.

From a die-hard democrat - the only thing I can think of is McCain's support for nuclear energy. Everything else sucks.

1. he's more willing to embrace nuclear energy and drilling now, rather than obama who is pretty much against drilling anywhere and is wishy-washy on nuclear.
2. he'd likely kick the ayatollah's ass himself if it were to come to that
3. you'd get 4 years of hot sarah palin action

Yeah but McCain's old and we'd have Caribou Barbie waiting in the wings with her unscrupulous husband.

Vote for McCain if you want :

- lower taxes
- smaller government
- true reform of government
- someone who reached across party lines and has a track record of doing so
- foreign policy experience
- someone who will end the Iraq war responsibly
- conservative supreme court justices
- EXPERIENCE

Wow, thats pretty good. I'm impressed.

Voting for Obama is almost the opposite:

- higher taxes
- bigger government (more social programs)
- no real reform expect the democrats are now in charge (Obama voted w/democrat virtual all the time)
- someone who did not reach across party lines
- no foreign policy experience
- will end the Iraq war with an explicit timetable
- liberal, activist (legislating from the bench) supreme court justices
- NO EXPERIENCE

Looks like its going to be another Jimmy Carter 4 years...

You fail. You people seriously can't go a single thread without attacking the opposition.

My "fellow" libs? Not likely, mate. The point of this thread was to try to extol the virtues of McCain without attacking Obama. I think it's fair enough for the libs on this board to rebut against the outright lies when they occur.

Nice post, Lemon Law. That is basically how I feel about him too. Maybe not the ideal candidate for me, but a big improvement over Bush no matter how you look at it. He seems to have real integrity and I still believe the real McCain is somewhere in there. He's just been hidden by all the negative attacks as his campaign goes into its death throes.

Concrete issues where I agree with McCain:

- Against gun control
- Supports expansion of nuclear power
- Supports new drilling
- Strong on national security (I like Obama's willingness to talk without precondition, but I also respect McCain's hard-line stance against terrorist organizations, and ideally I'd like to see a combination of their views).

However, I can't trust the Republican party any longer as the "small government" party. At least the Democrats are honest about things and have good ideas for how to put the government to work helping people. The Republicans just claim to be for small government and increase spending anyway, and instead of the money going to good causes, it goes to the pocketbooks of billionaires.

The McCain of the 2000 election is unfortunately not the McCain of today. There is a noticeable difference in his views, his mentality, his morality. In truth, I think the real McCain came out. When you look at his history, not the glorified history you often hear about, but his actual history, you will find a string of failures, shameful behavior, and incompetency. In 2000 he looked better than he does now, that's for sure. I think that might also be due to a simple lack of information about him. Even in 2000 information wasn't as prevailent as it is now.

So before you let someone convince you by citing things that start with the phrase "his history of ..." make sure you pay closer attention. McCain's recent history is scary. In truth, where I used to think it couldn't get worse than Bush, I think McCain would be the worst president of all time.

FYI I'm an Obama supporter. This video is in fact fake and the real one is also posted on youtube.

So I do not know what to think other than the fact the question asked by the NYT times reporter was inappropriate in the extreme.

I have noticed that much like McCains ads, this forum is plastered with threads bashing Obama, much of which is untrue, and innuendo... all from a small cast of right slanted regulars... Is there really nothing positive that the McCain campaign has to offer that it has to be all negative (and mostly trumped up)? Are there no issues he wins debates on? The man has been in washington 25+ years, he must have something to offer?

There is a reason people call him McSame - if you want to see what he has to offer, one has to merely examine the Bush administration over the past 8 years and think 4 years more of the same.

In all fairness, I don't think McCain would be as bad as Bush. I don't think his warmongering advisors could convince him to start a war for no reason as easily.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but there you have it.

"McCain, many of the same policies as Bush, but not as stupid and gullible"

McCain not a warmonger? Surely you jest. He's even less responsible than Bush, the difference being that McCain knows what he's doing and will go for war anyway. Yes, he can't be pushed into war; his advisors don't need to do anything for McCain himself to push for war.

If I could believe that McCain is actually going to try to reduce the size of the government and reel in spending, I'd vote for him. Sadly, he has a history of lying and flip-flopping. As a former AZ citizen for most of my life, I know more about McCain than the average person. He's an opportunist. He'll say anything for a vote and then do whatever he needs in order to further his career. He lacks principles. He's much like a cheap whore - he'll do anything for a quick buck.

Sorry, but those who believe that McCain stands for smaller government and less spending have had the wool pulled over their eyes.
