I have one tomorrow and being the procrastinator that I am I waited until the last minute to try and pick up a tie. However being the professional shopper that I am I ended up touring the Beverly Center (Beverly Hills mall) for about a half hour and found selections that were a bit out of my budget and ended up at Ross.

I was hoping to find as plain and conservative a tie as possible in either dark red or dark blue, but these were as plain as one can get.

Will either of these do? Or should I try to borrow one at the last minute?

I also would go with the one on the left. Also, the fact that it is a consulting job doesn't mean crap, if anything the industry it is in would be important and you failed to mention that...

Borrow one.

Or just pick up a red with black/yellow on it. Diagonal stripes. Simple.

A yellow with black/red paisleys would be nice as well.

Now you're making it obvious that you're just showing off.

The blue is way too bright and cheesy looking. The grey is the better of the two - although it would help to know what suit and shirt you are wearing it with. I'd prefer a suble grey on grey tie pattern to break it up a bit - the solid shiney tie is a bit too lounge/nighttime in some places, but perfectly acceptable in others (NY, LA, etc.). But it would be fine enough to at least not have it be the center of attention once you start talking - which is really what this is all about.

Remember to speak well, enunciate, and use full sentances. And good luck!

Id either go blue or get a new tie. Honestly, I would get a new tie. Those look like party ties or friday ties.
