needed hardware modem

I got connect to DSL but I need to receive and send faxes. I used to have winmodem in my computer some time ago and I did not enjoy them very much. Which hardware modem model would you recommend me. I tried google but (it seems that most modem are winmodem today) i could not find one unles it cost more than $90.00.

I will appreciate any help or suggestion.

I used to recommend only USR hardware modems, back when I ran a 486 and Win 3.11. Winmodems used to be a drag because they slowed the system so much. Today's CPU's are much faster and have much more RAM, so unless you're working from DOS, Linux, etc. a Winmodem will do quite well.

Nowadays even Linux has pretty good Winmodem support, so there's not much reason to get a hardware modem any more. I did get one a few years ago because the Winmodem I was using would make the system pause for a second or two every time it initialized, and that got on my nerves.
If you'd like my old hardware modem (USR Performance Pro) for cheap, PM me.

If all you need is faxing, a hardware 28.8 modem would suffice, even, except that most of them are ISA, not PCI. But a hardware *external* 28.8 (old USR Sportster) should work fine, and those are probably a dime a dozen. (Assuming that you have a free serial port.)
