OK, I'm trying to get the 8.5 multiplier working here to be able to do the FSB-shuffle (boot up at a high multiplier and low FSB, run a cache proggie to lower the cache speed, and then up the FSB). My L2 can take 800/2 MHz but it's not rock solid at that speed. The system is completely stable at 840 (as in 105x8) MHz and 2/5 L2. However, the monitor doesn't even turn on when I try the 8.5 multiplier no matter what FSB I chose. 90, 95 and 100-106 MHz FSB work with a lower multiplier, so it can't be that the 90 FSB in itself is causing the problem.
I'm using a K7M with the latest BIOS (1009). I know BIOSs earlier than 1008 didn't support CPUs to run at 850 or higher, but this shouldn't be a problem anymore. I also have a FreedSpeed Pro GFD. At this point I suspect it is the GFD that isn't up to snuff.
Any suggestions?
