I am looking to buy a new computer and I am pretty sure I dont have the knowledge to build one. I have a Dell now and dont want another. I am upset that intel keeps changing so I can not upgrade so I am willing to try a AMD. Everything I have read says build your own but there has to be a good place to buy one out there. I really dont need much. My wife has a e-bay business and I like to play diablo2. I dont like 3d games or do any video imagining. I would like enough computer that I can upgrade if I start these things. Price range varies I am willing to pay for a good system but I dont want to buy another 2000 dollar computer that is useless in a few years. I would like to hear your suggestions about what you think I should do. I do have a couple of people that can build one for me but I talked to them and they seem to use the cheaper parts from what I have gathered on this board.

Thanks

Come on man. There is nothing more satisfying than building your own computer. It is not that difficult at all. Once you know what components to get it is just a matter of plugging everything in and installing Windows, all your drivers, and other software. Right now you can built an awesome machine for $800 to $1000. But for what you are doing you are probably looking at $500 to $700.

Is there any place on the web that shows whats involved in building a computer. The thing that scares me the most are the drivers.

Thanks

There is nothing scary about drivers. You should get a cd with your motherboard, one with your video card, one with your sound card, and one with your modem.

Pretty much all you do is:

1. Mount your motherboard in your case.
2. Mount you CD Rom and floppy drives & hook up cables.
3. Mount your Hard drive and hook up its cable.
4. Plug in your ram.
5. Plug in your processor and get a decent heatsink and fan to put on it.
6. Plug in your video card. (wait until later to install sound card & modem.)
7. Insert a Windows start up disk into your floppy drive.
8. Turn it on.
9. Format the hard drive and partition it if you want.
10. Load Windows
11. Load motherboard drivers
12. Load video card drivers.
13. SHut down then install sound card.
14 boot up & load sound card drivers.
15 shut down and install modem
16 boot up and install modem drivers.
17. PLus you might want to add a couple extra case fans to keep things nice and cool.

That is just a summary I will try to find a link to more info for you.
