Basically it means the impression many people (at least ones who are interested and knowledgable with clothes/fashion) get with Dockers is that they're for people who are either too cheap, lazy, or apathetic about clothes to buy it themselves (and thus have their parents, wives, etc just buy it for them... i.e. if they cared about how they looked they would know to buy better).
LOL. The "l33t" of fashion? I hate to think of what they say about people wearing Old Navy. There's something ironic about a bunch of dweebs hashing out fashion advice on the internet. It's bad enough that we're doing it here, but a forum devoted to fashion?
Let me put it this way--I care enough about how I look that I won't leave the house in a pair of wrinkled, tattered pants, and I know myself enough to know that I'm not going to waste my time ironing pants. I've yet to see pants from any other brand that I can throw in the washing machine, never iron, yet they don't wrinkle and the crease stays nicely put.
I know not to waste my money on "better" because they come out of the wash looking like the crack in the sidewalk and then I never wear them.
I don't really contest that Banana Rep. is higher quality and not a whole lot more expensive (although I think you're full of it if you think they're $20-$30 on sale. Maybe in Texas, but no frickin' way in NJ--I've never seen pants in BR for less than $50 even on sale), but in terms of utility, they just don't cut it.

Sluggo, well I'm tall and slim :) I do prefer the looks of pleated pants . They do provide more ass room :)

csf, I don't mind spending extra money for quality clothes. To be honest I don't buy non-brand stuff because I find you get what you pay for. Banana Republic is one of my favorite store and I've seen their khakis. Way too small. I love their slacks though. I got a wide-leg black slacks for $19.99. Original price was $80 or something like that. The thing I like about this slack is that it fits VERY well! For some reason I can't find any khakis that is like this slack.

Jzero, my skecher is a size 9-10. I can't remember which one. As for how often I wear khakis, I would say half of the time khakis and half of the time jeans.

abaez, I saw those in the commercial with the lady wearing 'em. The women's version looks horrible! I'm not sure how the men's version look though.

There's a lot of conflicting advice here. I guess I'll have to keep shopping around. By the way I'm 5'10ish and 150lb.

Heh, so maybe I'm a little zealous, I'll guess I'll try to cool it. It's not really fair to assume that people are snobs/dorks because they discuss clothes over the internet; the net's commonplace enough that places to discuss pretty much every interest exist. Besides, the men who are most interested in clothes tend to be high income with money to blow on looking good... or ambitious younger guys aspiring to reach that level; hardly a bunch of dweebs. I'm not criticizing you for your choice of clothes, especially if it works well for you and you have more important concerns; I'm just offering some different thoughts on the subject. Maybe only fashion dweebs can look at a guy and specifically explain why the style, construction, and fabric of his clothes are unappealing, but even the average person can look at a guy in cheap clothes and say "you know, that just doesn't look good." BTW re: Banana, I guess they may have some regional price differences but I'm almost positive that at least once or twice a year they have big seasonal sales where a bunch of stuff is down to $19.99 or so. If that doesn't happen, the Hot Deals forum has links to coupons and big sales on bananarepublic.com (I remember one where they even had their expensive wool pants marked down to $10, albeit in limited sizes).

Anyway, Hoeboy: you seem to have a good idea as to what you want; maybe you've already tried this before but it's always worth another shot. Just set a Saturday aside, go to the mall, check out every men's store or department store (pick a wide range from Marshall's and TJ Maxx to Sak's and Neiman's if you have them), and try on pants until you find one that fits your looks and comfort levels (then buy a bunch of them when you do).

LOL me too. I think Dockers is about the only thing in the world that I have brand-loyalty to. With anything else, I pretty much try to figure out what the best deal is, but for pants? NO WAY.
hehe

I guess it just reminded me of this guy I work with who also knows (or at least thinks he knows) something about fashion, and he actually does by Gucci and Versaci, etc, and they do jack for him. He still looks like a complete dork. You can buy nice clothes, but if they don't look good on you, they don't do a thing.

I hear that, and I can even do that. I used to date a girl who was VERY fashion conscious and would always bag on me if I bought something that she could tell was cheap and crappy, and about the one thing she never bothered to complain about was my pants :)

I agree that's about the best thing to do :D
