Okay so I picked up an open box special for this card, it's the visiontek TI 500 Xtasy..now i've never seen a ti 500 b4 but I've owned several GF3's and ALL of them had HSF's, this card has NONE, no spreaders for the memory either, I have a bad feeling about this and have yet to install it..was hoping someone else could confirm this or give me a heads up. Check out the pics! Here
here
and here

This is a place that reviewed the TI 500 xtasy, is it possible they made a different card with no fan and just the heatsink?

I have not owned a GF3 of any sort, but I know for a fact that all GF3's require active cooling.

Also the card in your pics doesn't have large capacitors. The capacitors on a GF3 board should be a lot bigger to handle the great power demands of a GF3 gpu. In fact my old Radeon DDR card hads larger capicitors than the card in your pic.

EDIT: If it was open box, couldn't you have looked at the card before purchasing it?

Sorry there Oakenfold, you're the victim of someone who returned the box with some other video card in it. Right off the bat it's not the Visiontek Ti500 cause it doesn't have the DVI connector. And EVERY Ti500 card out there has a fan and heatsinks on the memory. Where did you buy this open box? Best Buy?? lol.... sorry, don't mean to make light of it, just go back and return it.

Okay, I've scoured the net looking for a possible card that visiontek produced with NO dvi out on the ti 500, (if you look at the pics you will notice that there is not one on this card)..I'm curious what card it is but evidently some loser bought one and put his old video card back in the box. I should have known this would happen. sigh..:(

Well, here's an idea. If you have really old crappy video card laying around somewhere, just swap it out with that one. At least you get a decent spare vid card out of this situation. They really can't say anything about it anyway since someone really did swap some other card in the box.

I think it should also say it's a GF3 card right on the chipset. It should state somewhere along the lines of "nVidia GF3" in gold. I'm afraid you got screwed over. Where did you buy that? I don't know of very many places that take back previously opened boxes since they're sold at a discount.

Your card there looks like an old voodoo card or some no name brand. Hope you can get your money back.

I bought it @ BB, funny how

<< rimshaker >>

thought of that, I guess someone else pays attention to the open box specials..the card reminds me of a gf 2 mx...heck it could be a banshee.... I printed out a picture of the card to take with me tonight(what it should look like), I'm so irritated right now it's not even funny..not @ BB but @ the punk who did this... Imagine if someone who knew zilch about computers was to get this for a Christmas present and open it up and not know the difference, well at least until he realized his benches on 3mark were crappy(that seems to be the thing alot of people do now a'days doesn't it? lol) and then it be beyond the return date...oh well, maybe I'll find a real one open box @ a good price one day.. ;)

It looks like a GF2 MX to me. Passive cooling and no ramsinks, as well as a differently designed PCB. There's no way that's a GF3...

I've only seen one GF3 Ti card without active cooling, it was a reference/oem Ti 200. We've got the whole Xtasy line reviewed over at 3DGPU, if it's retail even the Ti 200 has the blue hs/fan and ramsinks.

Checking the fcc id is a great idea, that is definitely not a Visiontek Xtasy 6964.

I hope that BB doesn't try to pin the switch of the cards on you Oakenfold. BTW, post what you find out about the card and whether BB takes it back...

Go back right now an return it. It was their responsibility to make sure "their" customer returned the proper item.

I tried the FCC search, (VERY COOL, thx!) the search wouldn't work with that link, I tried another and couldn't come up with anything(I may have been entering it wrong since some of the engines require you to enter it differently than others) while looking @ newegg I saw this card. CardExpert GeForce2 MX 400 64MB ..which looks very similar, Here's the FCC id number if some of you would like to try it, lmk what you turn up with
180-P0036-0000-A
.. I plan to go back to BB this afternoon...ick. traffic...ick..

Only reason why I know that kind of stuff at places like BB is because i used to be those punks long time ago:eek: Hey, but that was then, when i was just flat broke being a student. And I only did it on things like modems and soundscards... hell even a cpu back in the days!! But like i said, that was then. I stopped doing that stuff when the retail stores actually got educated and started looking at returned products and looking at the serial numbers and model numbers.

Oh shut up... like many of you haven't tried it... :p

How do you think i came up with the idea of keeping that one and replacing it with one of your own crappier cards? ;) A gf2 mx isn't bad to have for a spare.

Rimshaker, Just to give you a heads-up, that kind of dishonest crap does'nt cut it here. We pride ourselves as honest traders/people.
If you plan on doing any bussiness here, then I sugest you put that kind of attitude in your past in a hurry.

Go here and see what your card displays. This should tell you what series it is without prying off the HSF.

There's always some reason someone returned a good card like a "Ti-500" ;)

Good luck!

I'm getting ready to go return it now, thanks jamesbond007 for the nifty trick, unfortunatley all I could see was the irq not the device id on my setup for my K7s5a...anyhow when I was pulling the card back out of the system(I couldn't help, wanted to see if I could figure out what it was) I noticed in very small writing on the board of Geforce 2 mx...that confirms it..hopefully I can get my cash back..
