Hey everyone I am in dire need of assistance!!

I have a video clip of a television appearance I made that I need to trim down for easy viewing. Right now what I have is two hours of video on a DVD from which I need to extract two 5 minute clips from. It sounds easy enough but I cant encode it into Divx as it needs to be able to be played from a computer with Windows Media Player...without the need for additional codecs to be installed.

I need this really badly for work and my boss in on me like white on rice. For the first person to either post or PM me with a process that works I will paypal you $10 as a thank you. I will follow each process in the order I receive them and when one works, the conributor gets paid.

Thanks everyone.

Use virtual dub to dub out the clips and save as a divx avi. then use eo video to encode it as an mpg.

virtual dub is free
eo video is free for 30 days

I'd think that if this is for your job you could spend some time doing just that.

DVD -> VCD

For the VCD Part, substitute the codec you want to use in WMP instead.

That is of course assuming that you know how to rip the media off the dvd. Here's is DVDDecrypter, software that will rip the media.

Ok, I've got DVD Decrypter ripping the video off of the DVD as we speak. Once I'm finished with that I'll need to use VirtualDub to edit the video down to the portions that I want?

nope...next you'll need something to convert the vob files into something useable...such as Flask MPEG

okay! so after i convert the file using flask, then I can use virtualdub to clip the video, and lastly use EO to encode into a usuable format?

almost correct.

rip dvd (dvddecrypter), convert media (flaskmpeg), clip and encode media (virtualdub), convert avi to mpg (eo video)

Here is a decent guide that uses the software that I've suggested.

if you want divx then you NEED an additonal codec..namely the divx codec :) Which sucks btw for local playback and (IMHO) is only good for streaming and online videos etc...so why do you need divx ???

Mpeg-2 is better (DVD standard) for local playback (again: IMHO)....so..check what codecs you have, what codecs you need...decode/compress with virtual dub (or a good video editing prog like Sonic Foundry Vegas) to the format of your liking...

Etc..etc...blah blah...

I mean, it's a pretty complex topic, DVD ripping, codecs, formats etc...i dont think you can learn that in 10mins while you're at work :)

I'd recommend www.doom9.org for as good as anything regarding this..lots of good faqs and guides there....
