Exactly. Newer games don't just require SM3, they also have much more graphics detail, and a 8600gt is not good enough to run new games with all those detail. I'd get a 3850 as a minimum, that card would easily be 3x as fast as a x850pro, and it doesn't cost much.

I'm with Munky on this one- I'd get the 3850 or 2900Pro in this price bracket.

Arrgh- my bad- didn't see your Linux requirement.

Wait a bit for 9600GT, I've seen the benches, it will be a nice card for it's price bracket.
