I am getting an Athlon 1.2GHz CPU with 256MB PC133 ram. I need a video card ot go with it. I mostly use my computer for gaming. I don't want a top of the line Geforce 3, but I would like something that will work good.

I am looking at a Radeon SDR 64MB right now for $199 CAD. I can get a DDR 64MB for $299. A Geforce 2 MX400 64MB is $190 or so. I only have a 17" monitor and run at 1024x768. Which video card hsould I get? Is the Radeon DDR worth it for me? Woudl the SDR be good enough? How is the MX400?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

i think you should go with the radeon ddr. in terms of performance, the geforce2 mx is at the low end of the geforce's. not only that, but the radeon has much better 2d quality. i think you will be pleased with the radeon ddr.

I've been told to go with the Radeon also. If you look on the internet you can find a stripped down version called 'LE'. It lacks HyperZ and doesn't have the same clock speed. But from what I have seen, HyperZ can be re-enabled by updating the registery, and it can easily be overcloked to Radeon specs.

i have the radeon le, i enabled hyperz and overclocked to 166/166 (default specs for radeon ddr, i think)

not sure how much of a performance boost its giving me yet, though it is faster than my voodoo5 was.

I am also looking ta the Hercules Prophet Kyro 2 4500. Is this a good card? I t seems ot be better than the Geforce MX and the Radeon SDR and it is only $200 CAD. Is the Radeon DDR for $299 worth it over the Hercules?

Thansk again,

Chris

Radeon LE, definitely....

Or wait 2 weeks, and you should see a considerable price drop when the 7500/8500 Radeons are released...
