So last video camera I bought for her on her birthday a couple months before the birth of our first kid. That was a Sony regular 8mm. Been good, but need to get digital now. THat poor puppy's eaten 2 batteries & still goes. But analog ain't gonna cut it anymore.

That said........I'm gonna kinda' lean on ATOT folks here for good recommendations. Cheap is good. I spent $600 on that last one back in '96 & it's worth about nothin' these days. I might even consider a digital-8 cam (if they do those anymore) for some compatibility w/ our old 8 (???) But..............kinda' thinkin Mini-DV. (??? again)

??? TIA!!

Getting to crunch time. Need to buy something this week.

Been reading on camcorderinfo.com and as best I can read it looks like the Canon Elura 100 is about the best sub $500 camcorder????

Any opinions??

TIA!

Hey Man,
go to http://www.pana3ccduser.com
This is a great site for all your camcoder needs.

Panasonic usually makes great video cams.
If your budget is around 600-700, check out Panasonic PV-GS300. Great cam.
I was gonna buy GS-250, but could not find one, when they all got discounted due to being phased out and replaced by GS300.

Regards...

Nuclear,

That's actually a great suggestion. I think we're just a few years off from where these 2 forms of recording will merge! A digital camera/video camera all in one. That can do all of it well!! Just not quite yet. (imho)

xit,

Looks like a great site for the enthusiast, though I'm not a 3CCD shopper, nor a true enthusiast. Just want somethin' to take descent video of the kids now so we aren't recording in either 15fps on the digicam or 8mm analog & not gettin' all we should be gettin'.

Anybody got somethin' like the Elura 100 but that they think is better???

Btw, are you shooting mostly in low light or not ? Sony is better for the low light, but Panasonic is a great overall cam.

Well, not according to the folks at camcorderinfo.com. (If that means anything).

They seem to have given the Elura 100 (at its price point anyway) the thumbs up!

I normally do like Panasonic stuff, but it appears the Elura 100 has Panny stuff beat in this price range.

Some stores will let you tape, and see how stuff looks on TV. Check them in a store. I know some people who were dead set on buying one particular cam, but in the store, they went after a diffrent model, because it felt more comfortable in the hand and was more convenient for them to operate.

If you liked what guys at comcoderinfo said about elura 100, then go for it. Nothing else matters as long as you are happy with your purchase :)
