Based on your system specifications, I would recommend a GeForce2 GTS DDR. I would prefer an Asus, but any GeForce2 GTS would do fine.

What version of AGP does you mobo support?

Yeah probably a GF2 GTS
I also like the Asus V7700
A GF2 and an 800Mhz CPU would be a pretty rocking system.

If you don't want to spend that much go for a GF2MX, I'd go for the Hercules because they clock their RAM a bit higher and RAM is a big bottleneck at higher res. The Asus V7100 GF2MX would be my 2nd choice.

What games do you play? This is the most important part as to what video card you get.

Are you joking, interchange? The GTS doesn't cost much more (if you do your homework), and runs circles around the MX.

I had a GeForce 2 GTS and I bought a Geforce 2 Ultra and the difference is amazing. I cant believe how tight Quake 3 looks now. Its incredible. Worth the 500 bones.

Here's a vote for ATI Radeon DDR 32 MB

It'll beat a GeForce2 MX in visual quality and speed, and it costs less than a GeForce2 GTS.

Drivers support under W2K sucks, but I see that you only use 98SE in your system, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

My vote is for Radeon 32MB DDR from buy.com for $130.

Better image quality and DVD playback than GF2. Drivers are very good now for both win9x and win2k.

buy.com raised prices on the gladiac GTS, it is now like $190 before coupon...Radeon is the bette deal.

I am sorry, but make a decision. Either card would be great. The Nvidia card will have frequent driver updates and Radeon won't.

Do some shopping and what ever is the best deal: get it.

Powercolor Evil Kyro 64MB? :) It rocks in UT and I'm sure it is quite sweet in CS.

It's like $115 from a vendor on pricewatch.

Since so many people are afraid to try new things I guess the next choice is the ATI Radeon 32MB DDR.

I'm not an nVidia fanboy- their 2D makes me wanna yak and they are trying to take over the industry it seems. Just MO.

The Voodoo5 is the card for you. You play UT, which plays best on a Voodoo. Even a Voodoo3 will beat a GTS in this game. You also play Counterstrike. The Voodoo5's FSAA is simply AMAZING in CS and HL. And you do photo editing, the V5 has excellent 2D. Everything you stated points to the Voodoo5. Who cares if they are closed....the card is as great now as it was.

I agree with Deeko, except that with 3dfx out of business I'd be leary of a V5....no driver updates would suck. Sure the drivers are good now, but what happens when you want to move to whistler? Or DX9? I just don't like no driver support...look at the Vortex2...friggin awesome board...but if you use Win2k you're screwed...

Radeon is an excellent board, I had the 64MB Vivo...but I had driver problems with it...I can't stand driver problems so I ditched it....I'd go for the GF2GTS, but the Radeon is also very nice, and has better image quality in both 2D and 3D.

Oh if you are a speed freak the GF2 is probably for you....
