need very low end computer, help please

Hey guys,

My father needs a very low end computer to use in one of his auto stores to process orders. Order processing is all that it will do. DO you all know if there are palces to buy one cheap, less than a hundred bucks for maybe a 233 or 300 mhz? He already has a monitor. Any help wopuld be appreciated.

It will be tough for that price do to the price of shipping. It could well cost more to ship then it is worth.

Check if you have a local used computer store... when I went out to the local computer exchange to get a cheap monitor I saw a bunch of low end pentiums that were real cheap... perfect for making an X terminal, but they could be used for other things..

you'd be better off putting up a WTB (wanting to buy) thread in the For Sale Forums. Ask for all the components except for the case (the heaviest and bulkiest part, buy that locally to save $ on shipping costs, and assemble it yourself), and go with an integrated board and cheap processor.

A good candidate would be the Abit WB6 (or similar board) and either a P2 or a celeron like a 366 or 400 (you might be able to snag both for like ~$60), a cheap smaller hard drive, 4-8Gb or so (~$30-40), and 64mb pc-100 sdram (~$10) and you're off to the races...
