NEED URGENT HELP

Hey, i need help as ive messed with the cas timing things in my main comps bios and now it wont post and i dont know of any way to get back into biso to fix this. I have pc3200 RAM 2x512 ones crucial and others samsung. Im on a parents laptop which is ridden with spyware and useless junk bringing the thing to its knees and recovering from serious errors ever few minutes so plz help soon.

BTW i set all the timings to the best ones possible just to see what would happen, now i know :'( :'(

Is there a way to clear the CMOS on a laptop? I've never had to do that on a laptop. If there is, I would do that first. That resets the bios back to default.

Oh no no. Its a desktop im just using my parents laptop to post this sorry i didnt make it very clear.
Its a: A64//MSI 6741
Youve hit the nail on the head though!! i need to reset the CMOS but how is this done? ive never had to do it before.

There's a jumper on the mb to short out the battery power to the cmos, thus resetting the bios. Your users manual should tell you where it's located. Make sure the unit is powered down, switch the jumper, wait a few seconds, and then switch the jumper back. All the bios settings will return to their defaults.

Heh isnt it great that the users manual came on the hard disk? Hmm i might be able to figure it out but what does a jumper look like? and where are they typically located?

Use a flashlight to look on the motherboard. Usually, it says CMOS next to the jumper. Just do like was mentioned above. Pull off the jumper, wait about 5 seconds, then put it back on. It should boot up then.

Or unplug the computer from the wall and remove the CMOS battery for about 15 seconds.

Couldnt find the jumper so i pulled the battery out 😀 and im back on the A64 thank god. I gotta introduce my parents to adaware that laptop is friggin awful. Thanks for the help guys.

Just for future reference:
this is a jumper (with a tab so it's easier to grab - normally they look like this)

See the three pins? When it is in its default (not-clearing) position, the jumper will be on two pins. One of those pins is not hooked up to anything - it's just there to keep the jumper on. To clear the CMOS, one would take the jumper off the first two pins, and put it on the last two pins (so instead of 1-2, it would be on 2-3). Then after a few seconds, one would put the jumper back on 1-2. 🙂

sometimes jumpers are in sucky places
FYI, this is a DIP switch. You probably won't see these anywhere
