I want to upgrade my cpu, motherboard, ram and video card. Thinking of P$ 3.0 or above, asus motherboard or equivalent, 512 ram and nv35 or ati 9800.

Looking at my system below, do I need a higher wattage psu and will all the other componets be compatible?

Current system:
mid tower case
300 watt psu
P4 1.7
intel 850 motherboard
512 rdram
seagate 60 gb hd
geforce 3
sb live
klipsck 4.1 speakers
plextor 16x/10x/40x cd-rw

I would upgrade to an Antec truepower 430, and I think everything else you are not upgrading should work fine. BTW, are you going to be selling that p4 1.7?

I think that Asus has become more interested in getting new technologies to market than supporting current products. I wouldn't get an Asus board myself right now because of their current attitude. For the premium I paid for my A7N8X-D, I hoped for better support, but I just ended up buying a name. Abit and Epox are two good companies I would currently consider.

Look at an Intel 865PE or 875P chipset motherboard. Corsair, Samsung, Mushkin, Micron, Crucial, and Kingston are known to make quality memory. Buy some PC3200 or higher DDR memory.

There are also some tempting parts I would upgrade to if I were is your position. The M-Audio Revolution is a high quality sound card which is at least equal to the Audigy2, and cost less, but their are some downsides also. Research the Revolution and see if it fits your needs. Also, Western Digital has a high performance 10k RPM HDD out right now that you might want to consider. Peace.
