Just an aside... is Twin Peaks any good? I remember it was all the rage when it was on TV, but I never got to watch it. I'm thinking it's the next thing I watch on Netflix if folks here seem to like it.

i enjoyed twin peaks up until
they discover who the killer was
. everything after that felt like they were just trying to recapture the awesomeness that occurred prior to that.

of course, this was back in the early 90's i think so it might be a little dated.

Check out Hunted on Cinemax. It just started. It's a BBC/Cinemax venture and pretty good so far. Reminds me of stuff like Burn Notice, only more serious and with Melissa George instead of the weirdly mannered Donnovan.

Don't compare it to stuff like Homeland - it loses badly in that comparison - but it is still fairly good for shows currently on the air.

I'm going to assume you've seen other HBO shows like The Wire and Deadwood. If not, those are MUST SEEs.

I enjoy American Horror Story. It's not amazing but it's very entertaining.

By just started, do you mean hasn't even aired yet?

NM, found it - 4 eps

Do they have British accents? I won't watch shows like that.

Info on it.

I guess I'll give it a shot since it is cinemax but it doesn't look that interesting. Nothing that hasn't been done before, or done to death

I never said it was original or compelling. But if the OP likes Burn Notice still surely there's a good chance he will like this. Burn Notice is so derivative of itself that it has become unintentionally one of the funniest shows on TV. Sort of like the last couple of seasons of 24.

This show is sort of like what you might get if you took Annie Wersching's character from 24 and gave her a Bond rip off show. With bonus occasional nudity.

I don't watch a ton of tv other than sports, but I'd have to say the only show that I'm really hooked on is Parenthood. Wife and I love it. I don't know what alot of the other shows mentioned in this thread are about, but Parenthood is basically what it sounds like. It's all been said and done before as far as topics etc, but they way it's filmed and the dialogue/characters are awesome. For a major network show, I'm digging it. It's a warm & fuzzy type of show, something to watch with the Sig O. But this is about the only show I'll watch with my wife who dvr's just about every reality show ever made.

I believe you hit the proverbial nail on the head. BN was great for the first few seasons... Now it feels like they've all become caricatures of themselves.

Wife and I watch it but I am so tired of everyone talking at once.

Yeah and the conspiracy plot is like an onion with infinite layers that stinks and burns your eyes the more layers you peel off.

I loved The Wire. Slow at times, but the end of each season was so rewarding... and so fucking real.

How's Spartacus?

Fun, action-packed, kinda campy. I believe there is more nudity in it than most porn movies, but I haven't yet completed my study on this subject to say that conclusively.

Seconded on both Hunted and American Horror Story, at the same level as torpid puts forth and for about the same reasons, plus obviously YES on Deadwood and The Wire, if the OP somehow hasn't seen either yet.

spartacus fucking owns! the actor who played the main character was diagnosed with cancer between seasons 1 and 2, so they did a prequel type of season for s2. then the actor died in real life 🙁 and they found a replacement for him in season 3, which continued after season 1.

great show IMO, with it's own really great style, but you have to give it a chance because the style seems comical initially but it grew on me big time.

have you tried Modern Family? if not, you should give the first few episodes a try to see if you like it. my wife and i love it.

My recommended show is . . . nothing. Read a book, take a walk, see a play. There are so many better ways to spend your time.
