I have the old KT400 Dragon Platinum, and everytime I push the power button to start up my computer I have to hold my breath. Some time's it starts right up; other times I get beep--------beep--beeeeeeeeep, and no video. It looks like it's booting up, but nothing on screen.

So it's time for me to toss this crappy thing into the dumpster.

Which MB would be the best deal for me?

Thanks!

I have a brand new Soyo KT600 Dragon Plus if you want something cheap. PM if interested.

EDIT: How dusty is your system inside? Try reseating the video card and/or ram.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not interested in another Soyo, plus I'd like to buy a new motherboard. In any case, it's not my vid card, ram, or dust, unfortunately. Apparently, this problem is one that many have encountered with this board.

PS, sorry for making this redundant thread, folks. I did some searching and I have found a dozen threads asking the same question.

Although I will almost always ignore threads with the word "best" in them, because I consider them just an invitation to an argument, there was a time I liked and used Soyo MB's. It's been since back in the Pentium I era, though. The most highly regarded MB for any XP cpu seems to be the Asus A7N8X, in its many varieties. That's just my own personal opinion, based on the impression left by the many happy owners' messages left on various message forums.

It apparently is high quality, dependably reliable, and seriously stable. The PC enthusiasts who enjoy the challenge of overclocking systems tend to prefer either the Abit NF7-S or the DFI NF-II for the AMD XP's.

Shuttle AN35 Ultra is still hard to beat if you are on a budget and don't need SATA at the moment.

Thanks guys...I'm looking for low-cost, and no need to overclock. I'll look into those boards.
