So we're fixing to put more machines out on the library floor for patrons but I'm having a problem because the internal speakers are working. I need to have internal speaker(s) turned off, but be able to use the headset jack for headphones.

Any help is appreciated.

Hmm, I always thought the internal speaker only went off when no other sound device is detected (no drivers?) or there is a specific system error that calls for it. I would check the BIOS first, though.

A lot of new motherboards come with the speaker attatched to the motherboard... short of breaking it off, or maybe modifying the BIOS I'm not sure if there's anything you can do about it.

I was looking for a clean way to do it (unchecking some box) but couldn't find a way so I popped the box and traced the speaker wire to the mobo and just unplugged it. Worked like a charm and thankfully the box was easy to open/close so it wasn't that much of a hassle.

Thanks for the help guys!
