Need to stop programs from becoming the active window

I have some programs that I run in the background, but when they are done or part of the program closes out in the background....the main part of the programs window will pop up and become the active program. This is in Windows 2000. Any registry key that I can change to stop programs from doing the pop up on me?
example: When typing in Word, the program will pop up and of course the letters im typing will effect the program that is popping up, such as exit or cancel or continue will go in when ill be typing X or C ....

I think there is a tweakui option to prevent applications from stealing focus.

Download TweakUI from Microsoft's XP Power Toys website. The option for preventing applications from stealing focus is one of the first options. There are some registry settings under */explorer or */current version, but I wouldn't know them.

HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop
ForegroundLockTimeout
ForegroundFlashCount

I set both to 0, and applications no longer steal focus, and flash indefinitely.
