Need to silence the Antec 635 PSU

smp

Hey.. just put a system together for my old man w/ a antec 635 (350 watt PSU) and it's loud. I wanna switch out the fans if I can, or if it's even worth while.. I don't want to void the warantee and not get quieter. Anyone got any links or pointers? Stories maybe? Thanks.

edit: not the case fans... the PSU fans .. thanks.

if its a detachable 2 pin connector then get the panaflow l1a

if not then snipe it and heatshrink the 2 wires togheter

ohyeah watch out what you touch so you dont get shocked

I dunno what you mean by this, but opening the PSU voids the warranty immediately.

Well what I mean is I don't want to void my warantee for nothing.... ie, if I void my warantee and then there is no audible difference, it's not worth it. Will there be a difference is what I want to know.

Thanks NewCompGeek but I was looking for something more detailed. I'm not really sure what I'm not supposed to touch in there, I guess the caps eh? Shouldn't I let the thing discharge for about a day?

Hey thanks.. I did a search on this prior to this thread and I did find that link but it didn't work that day. I guess his site was down, but yeah, I think it's snowpunk's site right?
Thanks.

If he has room behind his computer (3-4 inches), you could make a muffler. Just turn the air flow upward or downward or to the side away from you, without slowing it. Put some dense foam or sound dampening material on the wall opposite the fan and you can take off a few decibel without hurting your cooling. You just have an odd box on the back of your computer. I use to use one when I had a delta fan. (7000rpm). It did moderate some of the noise. I still switched to watercooling to rid myself of the high piercing scream of a that fan.

I just dug out my old one and put it on my system and it did help a little with my back exhaust noise that was reflecting off the back of my desk.
