Hello
Im needing some help on what I need to configure a connection to a new laptop computer. I currently have a piece of test equipment that connects to my old desk top computer via the DB25 parallel port that is normally used for a printer. This test equipment sends data for measuring ultrasound equipment through the parallel port to some spedcialized measurement software on the desktop computer. I am changing out my old Desktop computer for a new laptop but the laptop doesnt have a DB25 or even a DB 9 port on it. (it only has usb inputs). Does anyone know how hard it will be to make this connection via a USB port? I have purchased some adapters and cables and made the connection but the software never sees the test device. Is there some reason this wont work ? or could it be that i still may not have a port configured right on the laptop? Im curious if anyone has done this with other equipment and been successful. Thanks for any help.

You need a USB parallel port interface, which I assume you've bought one from your post and it didn't work. The problem is that many of the USB parallel port interfaces don't perfectly emulate a parallel port. Not to mention that there's 3 different parallel port standards.

Thanks flyingpenguin so it "should " be possible to establish a communications link with this type of set-up that would work the same as parallel to parallel would ? I guess one problem is trying to figure out which standard the test equipment is using? Thanks
