I have a Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500
http://www.amazon.com/Cambridg...-DTT3500/dp/B000068PJA

I bought it about 5 years ago at a good price, and honestly, I love the kick from them. They full a room no problem, and managed to be the sound system for many college parties. I cant say enough about them, optical sound in, digital from my sound card, no complaints.
However, recently they began crackling, and after testing and research on the internet, it looks like its some capacity on the actual receiver, and doesn't look like it can be fixed....

now my question is, given the link above, does anyone have a comparable or better sound system for a computer they would recommend? I am looking mainly for 5.1 or more, and a great bass to shake the walls! I already have a home stereo that Im happy with, but don't want to go that large for a computer setup.
Also, the speakers seem to be fine and the sub, and looks like they are hooked up via coax, and was curious if I can purchase maybe just a receiver and use the speakers???

Thanks to all the audio experts out there!

I don't know anything about that set specifically.

In your research, did you find any information about the impedance of the speakers? I don't know how the control pod comes into play for how it connects to the computer and subwoofer, but I suspect that if you were to use the 5.1 set with a receiver, you'd still need to use the control pod to use the subwoofer.

For 5.1 computer speakers sets, Klipsch doesn't have a set anymore so you're pretty much limited to Logitech or Creative for higher end computer sets. Beyond that you're looking at a HTIB set.

They do have good support :)
I had a set of z-560s several years ago that I was happy with for a few years. Ended up selling them for about 75% what I had paid for them ~3 years earlier.

IIRC Creative owns Cambridge Soundworks now, but I would suspect that the quality of your original Cambridge Soundworks speakers would not be an indication of the current Creative speaker sets.
