Are AAA rates cheaper? Might be worth signing up for AAA for $50 and paying their rate.

While the major car rental companies can certainly accomodate your one-way rental, NONE will be cheap...

That is a good 2 days on the road.

Consider doing a rental for the time you need + 3 days.
Have one of the party that is able to fly, return the vehicle (now it is no longer a one-way) and fly back to Vegas. Book the ticket on Southwest 15+ days in advance and it will be under $100 easily.
Fuel for the return trip may be $75

If anyone is going to help (which seems unlikely at this point), they're going to need a starting point. I get that the destination is Las Vegas, but Iowa/Illinois is way too vague for me.
