I've had enough 🙂

My case is a monster Full tower ATX, 6 5 1/4 bays.
BP6 + dual 366's @ 550

My plan:

6 Panaflo 60mm's 20cfm bottom front
6 Panaflo 60mm's 20cfm high in the back
1 Panaflo 60mm 20cfm behind the CPU's

CPU#1 has an Alpha pfh + Sunon fan
CPU#2 has an Alpha pal + Sunon fan

HD = WD 24300, for now


Now, my dilemma

The CPU fans will be run @ a constant 7v, and the Panaflo's will be individually switchable from 7, 5 and off.

The PS will get itself an ultra quiet fan...dunno what kind yet.

How about the rest?
The stuff you put on the side of your case, any other suggestions?

I want to be able to SLEEP in the same room as the comp with it ON.

Help me out here 🙂
 
I found that using 110v Radio Shack fans cut down on most of my case noise/ trick is to cut the opening out to the size of the actual fan hole, runs great/ lottsa air, and pretty darn quiet

Which stuff is the best for dampening?
B-Quiet any good?

I was thinking of using egg crates to dampen the noise even more.
 
Eggcrates will help, but they aren't exactly made for sound dapening -- you want something really really dense. Products specifically designed for this do a much better job. Dynamat is okay, but there are better products. You can get Dynamat for cheap though...
 
beleive it or not, the foam rubber in mouse pads are pretty good. I used this stuff on the side panels of my case and it cut the noise a good aount. Not super impressive, but for free mats with the fabric removed and cut to fit, it did a good job.
 
60mm fans are not the best choice for quiet. 80mm L1A panaflos have a much better airflow/noise ratio, and the 120mm's are also good.

I thought about it, and the stuff that IBm/Seagate ships they're drive in, the eggcrate looking stuff wouldn't be half bad actually 🙂

BTW: I already bought the 13 panaflos 🙂
 
Use teflon around the fan's screws: will kill vibration.
Also, do not direct ouflow fans to the wall, air will make noise.
And rounded cables are a must: better airflof, and aid doesn't crash on the flat surface.

Should you have followed the Doctor's orders as prescribed in the SoundProofingII Article, you'd be on your way! All you'd probably need is two 60mm in the front, and maybe two more directed over the important spots! Follow up with two on the output.

My suggestions to all would be to get a Raytek Minitemp Infrared heat sensing gun, you can find the hot spots of your case/components and position fans accordingly.
