Need to know if this is possible

All, I am trying to setup a 3-display environment for a workstation of mine.

If you are looking at the desk, the setup will look like this with 2 generic 19" monitors on opposing side of the main 24" panel.

[Generic 19"] [Samsung 24"] [Generic 19"]

To do this I am purchasing 2 display cards, the first of which is a 6600GT which will ONLY provide video to the Samsung in the center (which is where I will play games and whatnot). The other two displays will be fed by a PCI matrox G450 I have lying around.

NOW, the problem I am unsure of is the fact that the first monitor (the generic 19 on the left) will be fed by RGB1 from the G450, the samsung in the cetner will be fed by the 6600GT and the generic 19" on the right will be fed by the RGB2 from the G450. Is this possible to have the monitors arranged this way?!?!?!

THANK YOU!

I've had a triple display going but that was with three vid cards.

1 - AGP and 2 PCI.

Will be interesting to know if the Matrox will support double display with the AGP 6600GT enabled. Find out from Matrox if this is the case or not and report back pls.

If not, you should go the way I did it.

Marc

The 6600GT card is a PCI-Express card and the matrox is a PCI card. My main question lies in if I can have the Samsung display in the middle of the 2 monitors fed by the Matrox.

Of course. You can arrange the virtual desktops in any way you like. Just go into Control Panel / Displays / Settings and drag the monitors around until they are positioned where you want them. Any of the monitors can be designated as the "primary" display.

If you are sure that the Matrox will support double display with the PCI-Express 6600GT enabled then it dosen't matter how you physically arrange the monitors, you are only limited by the cable lengths.

Well, thanks for the help guys - I suppose the best way to make sure is to try. I will go ahead and "rent" a matrox card from my local compusa today =)

You really should find out from Matrox if the card will support double display with the PCI-Express 6600GT enabled before you purchase.

Please read this thread and reconsider.

Thnx

I think I found out for you if it will work.

In this thread it is sugested to use the exact card you are thinking about along with another card for a triple monitor solution.

It should work but keep in mind that the Matrox 450 PCI's 2nd display is a DV connect so if you are hooking it up to a CRT you will need the adapter...and I agree with others and esp powerMarkymark's statement as I had to experiment and found Matrox's support quite helpful...
