Need to get files from a dead hard drive hdd

Ok so after getting a Maxtor L01R300 300GB PATA drive from Outpost in May, my drive dies. This drive was used only for holding video editing & music. My computer recogonizes that the drive is there, but all of my data is pretty much gone. What are some recommended programs/methods towards retreiving any lost data from this drive?

You may want to give GetDataBack for NTFS or FAT depending on what file system was on the drive http://www.runtime.org/gdb.htm

I've had to use Stellar Phoenix a few times for this. It's not free - about $75 if I remember, but that's a lot less than data recovery professionals will charge you.

Just keep in mind that you may not get 100% of the data, but I got like 95% of my mp3's and just about all of my game saves and things like that. Well worth it.

I tried using the trial version of GetDataBack for NT last night, and left the program on all night (about 8 hours). When I woke up, it was still scanning and it was still at 0% progress. How long is the scanning supposed to last?

Try Recover My Data. I used that last night on my 300 gb Seagate and it recovered everything.
