Need to get a printer tomorrow!

I bought a Lexmark x83 this evening - usb, printer, scanner and copier.

Print quality of regular text is crappy - white streaks through the black text. After going through cleaning and options and unclogging nozzles several times and even reinstalling the driver (latest one out), their Help suggested I change from "Normal" to "Photo" - which worked but was slow as hell. It took 2 minutes to print a page (black text) that had a border around it. Also, changing to "Photo" printed regular text pages so slow I could've chiseled it out in stone before the printing was done.

I'm returning it tomorrow - got it from Staples. Going through some of the older posts, it seems like HP is a good model - but I do want the scanner and copier features along with a usb instead of a parallel port connection.

I really need you guys for suggestions! I use this printer for work when I'm working at home so I need a good one (my other one bit the dust yesterday afternoon). I know HP is more pricey, but I'd rather pay for quality than get stuck again.

TIA for the help, guys!

I've had the HP 600c, 800somthing, and 930c. Havnt had any problems with them but hp ink cartridges are a ripoff, its much cheaper just to get generic ones off 123inkjets.com (or whoever they are)

There's a pretty decent review of printers at tomshardware.

They even evaluated the comparative cost of inks by vendor - which made Canon look pretty good.

Hope this helps!
