Hey.. im going to the US to do my high school and i need a cell phone.. My budget is 1200-1300 dhs max..

i read about the IMATE in todays gulf news .. is it any good?? do u think it'd be wise to go for a smartphone?

are there any good models in nokia ( which arent too bulky ) ?? is the 3220 ( asian model ) good?

cheers

Dhs = dirhams.. currency of United arab emirates ( country in middle east ) .. 1 usd = 3.67 dhs

Im not sure if i should go for smartphones or not...

My provider would most probably be Tmobile...and as far as i know , i have a wider variety of cell phones here and it will turn out to be cheaper..

Cheers

Well, make sure you can find a phone over there that uses GSM 800/850 and 1900, since those frequencies are all we use in the US. Most of the rest of the world is 900 and 1800.

please read above regarding what "Dhs" is..

i'd like a phone that looks good ( but not too funky :p ) , i want a light phone ( less than 110 grams ) , with a camera and a relativly good screen, a good battery life, something not too bulky...

Moving to Hamden,Connecticut ( 45 min drive south from Hartford,CT ) .. will most probably go for T-mobile..

hope thats enough..

uhm.. no.

edit: on second thought...cingular is buying out att wireless... and they're already letting them roam onto their network so depending on where you live you'd get to use both of their networks ...but otherwise...att = $$

no -- att wireless is being bought out by cingular as soon as the FCC approves it, making CINGULAR the provider with most subscribers (just a bit higher than verizon with 40+million). At&t wireless customers (in some regions) have roaming agreements with cingular already in place making att wireless coverage kinda awesome right now....but soon they'll be the same company and att wireless prices will hopefully be lowered. anyway...tmobile is great if you can actually get reception where you live and don't travel a lot. it's cheap and has the greatest customer service....ever? yea...definately.

but they recently got rid of free wap so :( fvck them.

anyway....get a nokia 6230.

check ebay? my guess is $400-500 so maybe a little over your price range?

flip phones are popular in the US ...as is fear, britney spears, and hating the french. enjoy your stay.

Smartphone - Treo 600 .. just got one for $400 US so it may be slightly out of your price range but still do-able. I had it with Sprint many months back but their service was horrible... I changed to Verizon and waited almost a year to get it again when they finally started carrying it last month. That's how much I loved the phone.

TMobile doesn't carry the Treo though... you should probably get Verizon anyway... they're probably the best provider in the US.
