I recently pulled my Ka-bar out of the gun bag and cleaned it up.

I want to get another one and give it to my cousin who will be going on his first hunting trip this fall. Cant seem to find this small Ka-bar skinning knife anywhere online. In fact I would almost believe the thing never existed except I own one.

My uncle (the boys grandfather) got it for me when I went on my first hunt in 1994. He died a few years ago and will be unable to give his grandson he first real knife. I'd like to do it but I got the thing brand new and I dont wanna pass on a worn knife to a young man. Also if I cant find a replacement I'll be damned if I give the little turd the only one left in existence.

Anybody know where I can find these things or something equally good?

I would have made a new thread but since we already have an official Ka-Bar thing going here I didnt want to ruin it. For reference I carry around a Kershaw Chive by Ken Onion. Its big enough to do everything I need but small enough that a reasonable cop wouldnt give me a hard time about it.

Next time I'm over there, if I think of it, I'll go in and check for you. (I live by Ka-Bar and grew up owning Ka-Bar pocket knives since I was a kid.)

Also, you might want to try Cutco for a skinning knife. KaBar and Cutco are now the same company, located in Olean, NY. (Well, Cutco is on State Street in Olean; KaBar on Homer; but they're owned/operated by the same group.)

I tried out a new knife for skinning my game this last deer and elk season, and I went with the Benchmade 635 mini-skirmish. Very nice knife for the money, and good deals can be had on them online.

After skinning an elk with it and a deer, it is by far the best pocket style knife that I have used for skinning them quickly, besides my cutco (which was sent in to be sharpened and didnt get it back before hunting season started - all serrated blade).
