well, you don't necessarily have to show off essay-writing skills... you could just do an uber-descriptive snapshot of a certain scene

I'd prefer to stay away from literature that I know (which is mainly limited to Shakespere). I want to do something I enjoy - which is economics or politics.

Sorry if you mentioned if it had to be fiction or nonfiction, but you could always write about the M1A1 (or the Desert Combat mod for battlefield....woot! :D) Skoorb posted a site with EVERYTHING you could ever want to know about the M1A1/2: Link

Need to show my essay writing skills, need a juicy topic to write about. Anyone know something that would be good? I'm considering doing either "Life in 2050," or "The origin of the universe."

Life in 2050 would be easier because you don't have to add any facts

Read David Brin's Book "Earth" that's a good speculation on life in 2050-2060

Previous ideas? Lame, lame, lame lame,... The usual ideas, history, today's events, Political issues, racism, the usual LAME stuff that thousands of people wrote about that everyone has read and tried to reiterate over and over again.
You don't want that.
What's original about that?

Why don't you pick a children's story and analyse it. Figure out why it is a great children story. What details about it makes it an ideal children story. What element about it will children find interesting. Why is it popular amongst children. For example: When I was a kid, I liked winnie the pooh. The picture of him in his little, peaceful, private home just made the story seemed sooo cool. Every kid wants their own little home. Its apparent because when you get kids together, they try to build some sort of structure and call it a house. Or, you could get a book like Alice in Wonderland. What makes that book so popular? Its obviously an issue of Imagination vs Reality. Do something interesting for once. Stop trying to reiterate the same old stuff.

How about cloning. Any aspect of it, such as stem cell research, coloning pets, coloning humans. There is so much info there. And it can be political as well.

I ahve done 2 research papers and a presentation on it. So it's good stuff, and easy to find info.
