I can currently get an absurd deal on 48 inch hdtv. I really, really want this. But Im in new york, and shes in new jersey. Bout an hour drive.

I dont know anyone who owns a van or SUV.

What are my options?

Call a cab company and see if they have a minvan or something. It would probably cost about $150, but if you're still "ahead on the deal" no biggie, rigth?

Already asked her to deliver for a fee, Im waiting on her reply right now. Shipping it doesnt seem to be an option considering its size. *Crosses fingers*

I would rent a uhaul, but I couldnt drive it myself. I dont have a car, and I havent driven one in years. Too bad I cant bring it on the subway. :)

And seeing that someone else might be interested in it, tommorrow might have to be the magic day.

Sigh...the things I do for electronics.

Is there a Home Depot near you, or the seller?? My local HD rents pickups for like 20 bucks. That plus a friend to help load/unload/drive would work.

go to craigslist new york - for sale - furniture, and search for "van" or "movers"...there's a TON of light moving services in NY...dunno which ones are good and which ones aren't, but you should be able to tell from the postings.

I was also going to suggest Home Depot or Lowes...they rent trucks for really cheap if you only need it for a short time period, then find someone to help you drive/lift. Craigslist is a good idea too, but I don't know how cheap it would be though.

Only in New York can people say that they "haven't driven in years.":laugh:

LOL, aint it the truth. In fact, having a car here would bring me trouble more than anything.

NYC tickets are INSANE. And they will ticket you for anything.

NYC insurance, is also insane. I checked a insurance rate quote app online, and apparently simply by virtue of the fact of living on long island rather than queens, my insurance is slashed in half. As it is, they quoted 3500 a year for insurance on a 91 civic.

Not that theres much use in driving it anywhere, because parking in nyc is such a freaking ordeal. If youre in a major area, you can either pay something like 5 bucks an hour for parking at a lot. Or if youre lucky and find a spot with a meter, itll still be like a buck an hour, but youll be able to park there for 1-2 hours max. If you think you can just find a spot on the street, 9 times out of 10, think again.

On average, Id say it takes about 10 minutes of driving to find a spot thats prob a few blocks away from your place. If youre renting and have a driveway, youre probably paying for it. Although at late nights, its taken up to a half hour to find a spot. Not to mention the obvious hazard of parking on the street. Ive never seen so many "clubs" anywhere else.

Where I live (Forest Hills), theres nowhere you can drive that you wouldnt be better off just walking. There is no parking for the grocery stores, or any other store for that matter.

And on that one lovely day when they clean the streets, if you dont have a spot on the right side of the street, youll have to wake up at 8 in the morning and figure out something to do for the next two hours. You can be guaranteed not to find a spot, because practically every other car on the road at that time of day is looking for a spot themselves.

Then theres the idiot drivers, the massive congestion, the ridiculous gas prices and the hell they call the dmv.

And to top it all of, my Gfs mother doesnt think im good enough for her daughter because I dont own a car. Sigh.

Thankfully I live a block away from the subway. Its grimey, but you learn to love it. :)

yeah...parking IS insane in NYC...I remember a few years back...in my infinite wisdom decided to take a drive into Manhattan...2 hrs parking cost me $45...mind you...I was parking like 2 blocks away from Times Square on a Friday night...from then on, I reminded myself to bus it in :)

Owning a car in NYC is utterly pointless. Then again, so is living there.

Dont I need to be a resident of the state to do that?
