Need to doublecheck, will Voodoo3 AGP work with PE Chipset mobo

I have a very, very cash strapped friend. He wants to update his machine to something reasonably current.

He wants Intel, no AMD, he is just more comfortable with Intel. He is willing to spend for a P4 2.4b an Albatron 845PEVPro mobo, and a 512MB stick of PC2700.

He would prefer to use his V3 3000 AGP if possible. I think it will work, can someone confirm this for me.

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure but I think the V3 3000 is 3.3v (it only has one notch in the AGP slot) and I think the PE can only do 1.5V AGP.

Nope, unfortunately your friend is out of luck. P4 chipsets only support true AGP x4 (1.5V) cards and don't work with backwards compatibility.

He feels more comfortable with the evil empire than with the rebellion.

Thanks for the answers guys.

Since he was content with a voodoo 3 then a Geforce 4MX should be alright for him. Could get a slower cpu and overclock it. If you do get a 100fsb cpu and run it at 133fsb. The albatron isn't so good unless they changed the bios. You couldn't get the right divider so the memory could run at 166 while the fsb was at 133 if your cpu was a 100fsb one.

He doesn't need to tweak every bit of performance and he doesn't want to overclock.

He is moving up from a Dull P3 500 and 256 MB of PC100, so if I get him up to a 2.4b and 512MB of DDR at say PC2700 he will be plenty happy.

he is probably going to hold off for another month, hopefully I will be able to pick him up a cheap GF3.
