need to delete a file

are there programs out there that'll delete a file regardless if it's "in use" or not? i've had this 1 file on my HDD for quite some time but when ever i try to delete it, it says it's in use... it's 400MB and i really need to get rid of it... any suggestions?

Have you tried deleting it in safe mode?

What is it, anyway? I remember reading here a work around for people having trouble deleting .avi files. I'll look for it, though I'm sure someone esle knows what it is.

haven't tried safe mode... not very good w/ DOS :\

and it is an .AVI file

just press F8 when you boot up if you are in XP. no need for DOS
