Kinda new here..
Was looking online for place I could ask for help on buying a new pc..

I current cpu/mobo is really old - pentium D 820 and msi 945gm2 (about 7 years old)

I got bought a i5 3470 with GAB75M-H3D mobo
The hardware is not installed yet.. so I can replace them..

So first of all - about the cpu.. the i5 3470 is good? Will the 3570 worth the diff between them?

And second - my current speakers are x530 - which connect to 3 audio cables (the current mobo had 5 inputs) .. and the b75m has only 3 (but according to gigabyte site it supports 5.1 speakers...)

Will I be able to use my speakers with this mobo?

The computer is NOT mainly for games.. just that my current is really old and the games I do play are bearly running..

Would be glad for you opinons..
Thanks.

There is not much differance between the 3470 and 3570, so just keep what you have.

Check the speakers to see if there is a single input that will do the splitting. Sounds like the computer was controlling the speakers before and now you need just a single input. Been a while since I had speakers like that so I can't remember.
Worse case just get a $10 sound card from newegg or other place that has the outputs or if you can return the board and get a Z77 or other one that has the extra outputs.

Not worth it, stick with the 3470. If you're going to upgrade, get the 3570K and overclock it (even if you don't do it right away, 9 months from now going from 3.8 to 4.2 is easy, and makes a difference).

Like Jimzz said, you'll likely have to invest in something to make your 5.1 work, the motherboard only supports 5.1 through HDMI not 3.5mm (which it only has input/output/mic... so 2.0)

Just updating for anyone that has the same issue..

Installed the i5 3470 with that mobo.. and the 5.1 works find - on the manual it says that the audio jacks are for: line in/line out/mic
but when inserting the jacks the driver asks what you inserted and let you choose the correct devices..

For 7.1 you'll need to use the frond audio jack ( if connected)

And I have a followup question that you might be able to help..

The last configurtion was a win7 32bit with 4gb 666mhz ram (4 sticks 1gb each) ..

With this config I bought a 4gb (1 stick) kingston 1600mhz, and installef win7 (64bit).. and sometimes I notice that the pc is running a bit slow, mainly during photoshop/xmbc media center..
There's a chance 4gb is not enought?? 4gb was plenty before..
Is that a ram issue? Or maybe something else?

Yes, 64bit versions of any OS will usually gobble up more RAM than the 32bit ones so if you're not gonna upgrade the system RAM anytime soon I suggest you get an OEM/retail version of win8 64 bit. I know it might seem a bit counter intuitive to suggest a change in OS but win8 is really streamlined as far as RAM goes usage, even your avg CPU usage will go down to a certain extent, & the next service pack code named blue will make it even faster, I've been testing the early builds, so either get a single 8GB RAM stick(preferably) or go for win8 IMHO.

Ok. First of all - thanks.

Ill buy another 4gb stick, I have a question about timings.. the current I have is a kingston 4gb CL11, and I saw there's also a couple of CL9 in the same price range..

Is there a diffrance between 9 and 11??
If so - the 2 sticks should be.in the same timing if I'm guessing correct (so I should look for a cl11 one - correct me please if I'm misstaken)

And for general knowlegde :) if ill connect a cl9 with a cl11 ram stick - will they work? Or both will work under cl11? (Which is less)

Thanks again.

It's best to get a matched set of memory which will most likely give you less issues....Barring a defective stick.

When running a non matched set they will run at the slower sticks timings/speed.

Why would you recommend a single stick of RAM for a CPU with dual channel memory support? :colbert: A pair of 4GB would give better performance.
