Here's the setup:

Athlon XP 1500+ 1.33GHz SocketA
CPU Fan SocketA/FCPGA 1.7 GHz
512MB DDR RAM PC266/PC2100
512MB DDR RAM PC266/PC2100
MSI-6380/K7T266PRO2, VIAKT266A,
ST340021A Barra ATA IV 40GB 8.2ms 7'2rpm
Toshiba SD-M1612, 16xDVD/48xCD, IDE
Millennium G550 DH 32MB DDR 360MHz DVI/VGA Bulk
COMPUCASE, Penguin-Serie 300W

He's no gamer at all... just a programmer. He doesn't play ANY games so I think that's the best card for him. I live in Switzerland, so keep in mind that I can't order anything from newegg ;) And no o/c needed.

Whatcha think?

Thanx

Yup, I don't see anything to complain about.

Personal preference: it needs a CD-RW, and I'm not sure if you'll see much improvement beyond 1 512MB PC2100 DIMM; might as well save some money there.

If stability is your #1 priority, and gaming speed isn't an issue... Then why not go with a chipset that has a proven track record, instead of a new one?

I just ordered the KT266 version, not the A, because I only had good experience with this chipset, and I set up about 5 computers with it. I know, it may mean nothing to you but it does to me. Everyone is praising the AMD760 Chipset, and I set up one computer with it, and I couldn't get it stable at a FSB133, and I tried quite hard..... And yeah, his preference is AMD ;)

Oh, don't misunderstand me... I wasn't suggesting to go non-AMD (as I've never done that before.) I'm just saying that the MSI K7T266-Pro was overwhelmingly the favorite board when it first came out. Not much later, it was deemed a POS with many stability issues. I was just asking why not go with a proven product, instead of taking a chance on another brand new Via chipset?

I know what you mean wingznut ;) (I also didn't take it as a non-AMD suggestion) But the computers with this motherboard I built don't have any stability issues, I think there was a new revision, otherwise, I can't explain why they all run flawlessly.

Hey ndee, once you've set it up can you give us some feedback. (performance/stability or anything else?)

Thanks.
