Need to buy an LCD .. decisions decisions

OK so my CRT blew the other day and I need to buy a new monitor, preferably LCD. I spent many hours the last two days looking for a good deal and apparently, not too many good deals going on at this time of the year.. I'm not too picky on the features like DVI, etc.. just want a good but inexpensive monitor for common usage. HEre are my options thus far:

1) Walmart has a generic 17" for $199 + tax (8.375% in my area) = $217 .. with a 3 year warranty supposedly.

2) Circuit City has an in-store generic (Proview) 17" for $224 + tax = $243 - $70 MIR = $193 .. 1 year warranty

3) Online - Acer 19" monitor for $249 - $15 instant rebate = $234 + free shipping. I would jump on it but having not bought a monitor online and hearing that they can come with dead pixels, I am a little hesitant. At the same time, it does have a 3 year warranty and no tax on it, but I'm wondering if those 2 extra inches are worth it.

4) Wait til a later date when better prices may or may not show up.. meanwhile, continue to use my wife's laptop.

p.s. above monitors are comparable in response time, etc.

help! thanks!

I considered that but that's quite a ways off. I wonder if online retailers (buy.com/newegg/etc) do black friday deals..

actually, it does have tax, only the business isn't charged with collecting it. i'm sure your state's statutes have something about how to remit mail order sales tax to them.

dvi kicks ass, you'll want it

I know what you mean, I've been looking seriously at one too, but I might have to buy a new motherboard soon, so I need to wait. Perhaps I'll be able to swing a 2005FPW for X-mas though.

I would suggest that the OP wait at least till black friday, that is only 2 weeks. If you can't wait that long, you might want to check out your local Ma-and-Pop store and buy a used CRT for $25 or so to get you by until you find a really good deal on something like a Dell Ultrasharp LCD, then you could go dual monitor when you finally get it.
Just a thought.
