It occured to me that many times I almost got myself in deep deep trouble so I need a radar detector to decrease the possibility of that happening ;), the question is which one is the best choice for the money ?

Valentine. You won't have to buy another one. If you cheap out on this and get tickets only 3/4s the time, you have already paid for the difference in what you think you 'saved'.

Don't skimp, save the money up and get the right thing and in the meanwhile, be cautious when you drive. I am cautious even with my Valentine -- never hurts to be :)

Escort X50 DEFINITLEY

Expert mode on the escort gives you 100000x more information than the valentine. The only thing the valentine has going for it is the forward and backwards lights. Expert mode on the X50 owns that... Threat tracking of up to 10 independant radar sources

I have one hardwired over my rearview, pass through an OEM kill switch (I dont have factory fogs- just the switch) and to my convertable wiring harness so its only on when the car's on.

it's an endless debate between the valentine v1 and the escort 8500 x50. Personally, i have the escort x50 and I've already paid for it by the countless tickets i've avoided. I ended up buying another one for my motorcycle I trust it so much. Don't get overconfident with the radar detector though; it's not a replacement for common sense.

on the cheap end the Cobra XRS9700 is pretty good.. execpt do not turn on the POP mode or the false alarms will drive you nuts.

I would have kept my cobra but that POP mode thing drove me nuts. Otherwise the range is really really good. I still have my 6 yr old + cobra something.. it still works but i need a new one.
