Do such things exist? I need to make a purchase from someone that's got a shady history for recurring charges, do they make a rechargable type credit card I can buy somewhere?

I'm not interested in signing up for a regular credit card that issues one type use numbers, either..

That's a possibility, thanks. The vendor has a big warning on their website that says "single use credit card numbers like private payments from american express cannot be used for orders."

Is this the same thing?

That's really shady. I don't care what the price is, don't order from these people. You probably will not end up getting the merchandise at all.

It's a reputable vendor, actually. I'm not concerned with getting the merchandise but I want to guarantee I won't experience any type of recurring charge.

The Simon Gift Card is a one-time use Visa. Kind of like an individual store's gift card, but can be used anywhere that accepts Visa. You can get them at any mall listed on their site.

EDIT: Oops Fixed Link

As indicated in the original post I don't want to sign up for a credit card explicitly for that purpose. Thanks though.

They don't seem to be local to me nor do they sell online. :(

Found out Bank of America sells a similar product. I'm sure other banks have gotten in on this too...

Yeah, got off the phone with the rite aid people. $10 initial fee, $4 to recharge it at a later date.

I'm going down there, thanks for all the feedback!
