Need to buy a new video card..

My brother plays Diablo II quite a bit, but is getting pissed since he cant play 3D mode with the ATI Rage Fury Pro VIVO 32MB.
He was thinking of buying a new card, I just checked out Blizzard's site and it says 64MB cards would crash it and the patch 1.03 will fix it. That patch is not yet out.

So until then, what is the best video card that I can get.
My brother wants to run dual head too.. in that case the MX sounds good.. though the memory bandwidth might limit it to high res.

or should I get a GeForce GTS2 32 + a Voodoo 3 PCI?

The best video card for diablo 2 is the voodoo 3 2000(the game is based on glide) There are problems with d3d(most people with GeForces or other cards play in 2d probably why you brother cant use his rage fury) To be honest the 3d in diablo2 barely does anything and it's not worth buying any new video card. Just use it if you can with what you have now if not forget about it your not missing much(the 3d mode only does colored lighting nothing else)

I think I might just get a Voodoo PCI card and add it to the secondary display. Now only if W2K drivers are good.

I've got Diablo II as well and the 3D is virtually non-existent. Your brother's Rage Fury PRO should be fine. Tell your bother not to bother buying a new one unless he wants to play other games that actaully use 3D.

Shouldn't the V5 5500 AGP be best if the game is based on Glide?

The only 3D in Diablo2 is the spells.

You barely notice the difference between Glide and DirectDraw.

If you want a multimonitor just drop in a V3 PCI. I'd replace that Rage 128 with a big bad ass Radeon if I was you, but that's just me.

If you aren't playing real 3D games there is very little point.

The Rage 128 series cards run Diablo 2 extremely slow and choppy for some reason, but I heard the newer betas fix the problems? I tried it on a Rage 128 Pro 32 MB and a Rage 128 16 MB but haven't had a chance to try the new drivers. Maybe you should try them, could fix your problem and save you $50 or so.
