Need to build website as storefront...any help would be useful

here's the deal.
i'm setting up a store to sell hardware and possibly software (it's quite a ways off, but i'm getting there). i don't know much about web design or anything about maintaining an online storefront. i need to know about autoresponse services that automatically respond to a customer after we receive an order, web server hosting, and all and any information you know would be useful.
also, any information that you deem helpful to the success of a new online retailer would be quite helpful.
