Just spend the ~$150 or so to buy a steam cleaner. You can probably even charge a one time "membership" to your drunk friends for the honor of hanging out at Maverick's Bar and Pong House in order to finance it. All the plastic/tarp/area rug suggestions ignore the fact that stuff like that doesn't necessarily stay put when you get a party going on. Besides the fact that it looks cheap - like covering your furniture in plastic before you let your guests sit on it.

As someone who has a basement with a bar and a beer pong table, you are fooling yourself if you think anything other than tiling the floor is a good idea. Our floor gets absolutely destroyed. Beer spills off the beer pong table. Beer, liquor, and mixers spill off the bar. People drop and break glasses.

Charge your buddies a membership fee and ask them to come over and help you pull up the carpet. Use the money they give you to pay for tiling or vinyl or whatever. Trust me though, your carpets are doomed.

Also, we use the basement pretty much every day. Where the couches and the TV are, there is a fake persian rug (machine made, like $200 from ikea). Even though the tile is a little austere compared to carpets, it is still homey and functional.

Are your friends really that careless that they go around spilling beer all the time? If so, time for new friends.

You've clearly never had a party or social gathering that has access to a full bar, beer on tap, bottled beer, and has a beer pong / flip cup table. Spilling is inevitable.

Horse stall mats - just like what we use at crossfit gyms. You can play beer pong AND bail on olympic lifts!

Yea I looked at the pricing and it seems like tile will be a better option after all. The quality interlocking gym mats are crazy expensive.
