The 930 is a dual-core CPU. If you want similar multitasking power from an AMD CPU, you have to get one of their dual-core offerings, which means you're either getting an X2 or a s939 Opteron.
Depending on the app, the x2-3800+ should match or beat the Pentium D 930 in most instances. The 930 certainly has gotten cheap, though.

No, the 3800+ X2 is closer to a 940/950...
AMD has no low-end dual core processors.
The single core A64's will exceed the 930 in gaming, but the 930 will beat them at multitasking.
