I just loaded Win2k for the first time and could use any and all tips to get it running like a hotrod.. BTW I have both 98se and win2k in my system..
Thank you for your help.

Oh how do I shut off programs that I dont want running in the background when I startup..

go here to check out msconfig-type startup programs for win2k...i hear "startup control panel" works pretty well.

let's see..you've got lots of ram, so go here and follow the registry tweaks for people with lots of ram!

also, you might want to increase your swap file, and put it across both drives..right click on my computer, go to properties, then advanced..then performance options...then click on "change" under virtual memory...i would use at least a 768-1536 mb page file on each drive. one on c and one on d (assuming c and d are each physical drives)..if you put a page file on a partition drive, try to put it closer to the edge of the disk (i.e. the lower drive letter in most cases)

good luck!

that's simple -

wait 18 months and get home a twice faster computer with half the
money...out of the box, faster than ever! no tuning needed!

Actually, I almost think that's the easiest way to do it... :D
Naaah! But seriously, really good Win2k tweaks are still pretty hard to find. Best things to do are IMNSHO:

1. Use a large cluster size. Easy with FAT32, worse with NTFS.
2. Turn off ACPI.
3. Remove all unnecessary services.
4. Stay at or above 192-256 MB RAM.
5. Keep your drivers/operating system fully patched. Especially graphics drivers and VIA chipset drivers.
6. Use Xteq X-Setup!
7. Stay at or above 192-256 MB RAM. <--- Did I mention that before? :D

Anyway, maybe I'll drop in with links to point 1, 2 and 3 tomorrow - in a rush at the moment. Cya'll!
