Anyone have any recommendations for good ties?

I've used cheap ties at Walmart and JCPenney and they can't compare to my one quality tie. My quality tie was a gift from a relative in China and the material is thick, more rigid, holds its shape well, has a great design, and the knot at the top is always nice and hefty with that angular shape to it. The cheap ones are always made out of crappy, thin material that doesn't look good when actually tied.

Nothing too astronomically expensive.

Yeah, anything over $50 is getting into expensive territory. But I'm a graduating business major, so I might need a good set that'll last me?

I buy most of my ties at Macys. They have a wide variety and are not way expensive. I like the DKNY ones that they have.

My favorite tie is my Burberry tie though. Bought it at the outlet for like $70 or something. I have a couple of Coach and Boss that I got as gifts and are pretty nice.

If you got one near you, Off Saks is best (for retail chains), Nordstrom Rack is also good

If you got money flying out of your ass, brooks brothers and burberry ftw

my advice is to be pretty choosy with ties...sooo many gaudy ones in stores like macy's/filene's etc..

I own some from nautica/jcrew, but my favorites are my dads who has built a nice collection over the years...lots of them seemed to be made by companies in london/scotland

doesn't help you though : P

Take a dress shirt or two to Macys and have one of the people try out a few ties w/ the shirts.

You should be able to find an inexpensive JNY, Nautica, or even Hilfiger (anything like that) tie at Macy's or some such place that would do the trick. I have a couple of them kicking around and they do the job just fine.

I find that an expensive tie (well, shoes too) is the difference between looking like you dressed up for one day and looking like you dress that way everyday. Though they're both above the price range mentioned, Armani and Facannable both make ties out of that thick material that makes for a good knot. I find both brands offer classy patterns in most colors too.

Also, if you can't tie a tie properly then it doesn't matter how expensive it is cuz it'll STILL make you look bad

Yes. If you make the skinny part longer than the fat part and the tie sticks out of the back of your collar you may want to stick to the $15 Donald Trump brand special...

JC Penny and Macy's usually have decent prices. They're not Dolce & Gabbana, but who really cares?
