Need tie help with striped dress shirts

So I got some cheap striped dress shirts from the jcrew sale, and I want to get some ties to match. I know the colors I need to look for, but what kind of tie goes with vertically striped shirts? diagonal stripes? patterned? solid color? TIY

Solid color to match the stripes. DON'T wear a striped tie, whatever you do...it blends in and makes you look nuts.

i'd seriously only go with solids because a pattern on pattern can be slighly dizzying.

I don't have any metrosexual authority here, but it's hard to match a tie with a striped shirt. How about a solid colored dress shirt and a striped tie? 😀

No, one can easily wear a striped tie with a striped shirt, provided the stripes aren't of the same pattern and angle.

If you're not comfortable with the that look, try wearing a solid colour tie, but (obviously) be sure to pick colour that matches your shirt.
