Well, if you change your mind, my girlfriend is an ASID certified interior designer. Space utilization is pretty much an every day part of her job.

So long as the mechanical and electrical systems are in and up to code, I'd go with a designer over an architect. Architects are good for designing the building layout, not so much what will be used inside the layout. Plus they fuck stuff up like dimensions, details, and basic orientation. I should know, I just got off the phone with one trying to figure out why our wood trusses don't have blockouts for intake/exhaust louvers.

I'd recommend either a interior designer like om3gawave's gf or a reputable contractor.

You don't want an architect. They'll just give you fucked up plans that are missing dimensions, and won't square up if you manage to find enough to go around the building ;^)

Ah... as a partial structural engineer framing architectural designs, I know this too well. Why can't they build symmetrical things...

So he best bet is an architect, so whatever he does, is all within the law.

Or a builder. Your plans can be on a napkin. It doesn't matter.

The basic things are like:

Fire detection
Entrance/Egress (modes and pathways)
Floor to ceiling height
Emergency lighting and lighting regulations
Liquors that work in the wet bar.
