I just got another line today and I have 2 pair, red/green and black/yellow I only had them do the outside job to the demark point cause I didnt wanna pay $125 for somthing that shouldnt be that hard. Unfortunatly it doesnt work. I changed the black/yellow to where the re/green were cause I only want it working in 1 room of the house not all 3. I get no dial tone though. I need some ideas on why its not working. None of the wires are cut in the loop. Do I need to connect it in the atic where its coming in?

I'm going to assume they hooked a pair of lines to the black/yellow outside at the box. That being the case you will have to find out where that line from outside comes into the house and where the splits begin for the other lines.

You mentioned your attic so, more than likely, the black/yellow is not connected up there.

If you're looking at the plug with the actual plug facing down, the red wire goes on the right, the green on the left. The yellow and black should stay un-connected. If those colors don't match, check the box, and the wire connected to the first terminal at the top will be you're red, and the bottom connection is your green. Lemme double-check that. :p Yep.

If it's anything like it was in my parents house I just took the black/yellow from the line coming into the house (up in the attic in your case) and spliced all the inside wiring into it using a 4 small bolts and nuts. I wrapped all the same color around one bolt, tightened the nut to hold them all in place and wrapped it all up with electrical tape. Didn't look pretty, but it was in the basement and did the job. Still had 51kb connections with my modem too.

You may have newer wires with 4 pairs of wires colored much differently, but it's the same principal.

*Edit - Akuma, I think he's trying do deal with the actual wiring, not terminating for a plug.

telephone wiring is not that complicated actually, I've rewired a couple houses for people

red/green is the standard colors like mentioned already

sounds like you just need to trace where the wires run, something is not hooked up as it is common to cut off the wires that you do not need
