Need Technical Reference...

I'm going through Bowman, Siddiqi, and Tanuan's "Concrete Architecture of the Linux Kernel"
but I'm coming across some concepts and terms with which I'm unfamiliar (i.e. backing store).

Is there a technical reference site that I could use while reading through the paper?

I find Google amazing. Using the advanced search operators enables amazingly comprehensive searches. WhatIs is less good, but OK for some things.

As for 'backing store', http://devresource.hp.com/devresource/Docs/Refs/IA64ISA/rse2.html helps somewhat, as does http://www-4.ibm.com/software/network/dce/library/publications/dceaix_22/a3u2j/A3U2JM42.HTM#HDRWQ2932 and its subsequent pages.
