I just finished building my new system and installed win2k w/o a hitch. I got all my drivers installed for all my devices, everything was working fine, but now my Pioneer DVD-106 isn't showing up under My computer and I can't use it. I checked under the hardware profile and it no longer shows up there, so I must have accidently deleted it. How can I get it back? Thanks.

well before you go all crazy put another ide cable adn see what happens...if the cable is bad obviously windows cant see or talk to it

also check to make sure its getting power...it should power up during the boot process and you can check the plug witha voltmeter to be sure

Yes it has power and will take CDs in and out and all that. The cable might be bad, but it was just working 10min ago. I kept having a New Harware Found screen with a PCI Bus Master device I already had install keep coming up, so I deleted it to stop it from coming up every time. Could that have done it?

i am not clear on what your saying ....what exactly did you deleate?...and where did you delete it....or when you say delete you mean just closed the new hardware detection screen?

It was the VIA BM ULTRA DMA CHANNEL under IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS in the hardware manager I believe. There were 2 and the second kept popping up as being found whenever I started windows so I deleted it. This also caused my DVD-ROM drive to disappear. I need to have a ROM drive to do anything, so I'm really stuck.

try reinstalling the drivers for the mainboard....adn dont delete stuff like that....lol....also win2k for me would often detect things twice but not everytime i started windows so be a lil more patient

Which drivers should I reinstall? PCI drivers from mobo? Miniports? Reflash BIOS? Also, where can I get them if I can't use the CD? Thanks.

well what mainboard are you using....try the mobo makers website first...look there first....and no need to flash the bios...atleast not for this problem....totally unrelated

It's an Epox 8K7A. I just reinstalled the miniport and PCI BM drivers and neither worked. Is there anything else to try? Or do I have to do a complete reinstall?

you didn't even say which cpu or mb you had.

if you have an amd board and a via chipset reinstall the 4 in 1 is it? anyway. that set of drivers that via has.

i'm not sure...you could try a repair install from the win2k cd and see if it reinstalls what you deleted...but its probably a long shot

rommel

question about ur suggestion, not trying to flame you, but he can't access his CD-ROMs and you suggest

<< you could try a repair install from the win2k cd and see if it reinstalls what you deleted...but its probably a long sho >>

.

now i'm wondering if his CD-ROM isn't working how is this gonna help??
