I want to replace my computer - Celeron 566mhz based - I will need all new components, including a case (I would like to get a case that has front mounted audio and USB ports)
I do some occasional UT2K3 but beyond that it is srfing, word processing with Dragon Dictate - I want to get 120GB of storage. I want to put it all together for under $1,000 - any suggestions?

I believe OfficeMax tomorrow will have a Western Digital 120gb HD for 60 plus tax. Frys always has some decent CPU/Motherboard combos, my neighbor just picked up a 2600+ and Mobo for 140, so thats 200+tax. Then just buy ram, your video card (you can get a 5900 for a good price, check pricewatch.com), for a case, if you're not into anything flashy, an Antec case is a good way to go, no front audio ports on some of the older ones but they have USB ports and come with great power supplies. You should easily be able to get a decent system for no more than 700 if you go AMD based. IMO.

Motherboard: Abit IS7 retails range from 98-110 from newegg (this is what i'm using)
Case: get this baby if you're on budget http://www.amamax.com/sc86blatxmid1.html
RAM: IS7 support dual channel if you're not going to oc you can get 2x512mb ddr333 and it will run great. get crucial from newegg they're 73/each shipped
CPU: P4 2.4c and up retails 800mhz fbs w/ht range 150-up depends on your

that's pretty much it..the rest you can find good deals on them for cd-rw, dvd-rw on newegg. for 100 you should be able to have a nice set up and i'm talking about included an LCD monitor as well.

You can get a 9600XT for $150 sometimes. And if you buy drives locally, they'll be a decent amount cheaper (like $80 for 160GB or $60 for 120GB; even less at times). Don't forget sound cards.

AC 97 well hold him over until he wants to spend an extra 100 dollars on a Audigy.
